Mixin it Up

So I'm finally done with finals!! As a celebratory event, I went to the Bath House Cultural Center at White Rock Lake and took way too many pictures. It was so perfect outside today.

Oh! Look what I found!

Seriously, I was WAY too excited about this painted butterfly stump

This was a fun pattern mix. It came together without much effort so I knew it was meant to be. Honestly, I've seen quite a few mixed patterns that look so cool and then I've seen ones that just fall flat. So I'm glad this one felt good for me. Also, I'm sure you can't tell, but I love navy.

So, I've not been a huge fan of living in Dallas for a bunch of different reasons. One of those reasons is simple: people are rude. They're rude on the highway, in public service, at the bank, at the mall, in restaurants, in my neighborhood. The list could go on, but I think you ger the idea. However, this week has proven me wrong and I stand in a place of humble correction. I've had various interactions this week where people have just, straight up, been pleasant. I've gotten hand waves in my alley to let me drive forward. I've had baggers at the grocery store offer to help me take firewood to my car. I had a sweet lady at the thrift store ask me about my measurements cause she needed help deciding if she wanted to buy some jeans for her daughter that was my size. I can't tell if it's just because I'm just in a happier mood or what, but I'm digging it. I think I'm going to do my best to be aware of people around me. It's just too easy to ignore people (especially when all I have is school on my mind). So my goal in this lovely season is to pay attention and not be so rude. It's tough, I know.

Austin and I went to his middle schools' Fall Orchestra concert tonight. First of all, am I the only one who gets super nostalgic when you're in a public school (for those of you who have been in the public education system, of course)? I start reverting back to my middle school self. It's hilarious. Anyway, I'm always pretty excited when I can go with Austin to his school events because I can meet people that he interacts with on a daily basis and witness the environment he works in. I respect my husband so much for taking on such a role of financial leader for our family. I mean, c'mon, he teaches 7th grade math (a subject hated by many) in DISD. Since he has given me the opportunity to work on my Master's degree while he works, I cannot wait to hold down the fort when the time comes for him to pursue his dreams.

Anyhow, the Dallas Stars game is about to start so I'm going to wrap this up. I can't believe Austin got me into hockey because our buddy Preston got him into hockey. It's become quite the obsession, which is probably why we'll move to Canada someday.

What A Burger

I'm finally happy with some of the pictures I took because 1) It was gorgeous outside today 2) I got my remote working at 2 second pauses 3) I found a deserted WhatABurger to play at.

I absolutely love this dress that I got yesterday at St. Vincent DePaul, but I didn't realize much short it was. Once I put a belt around my waist, it got even shorter so perhaps pants or jeggings will make more sense next time.

It's funny, but it seems that because of my upbringing (you know Christian + my tomboyish nature), I tend to feel like I'm showing too much skin or being scandalous where most people wouldn't feel that way. In fact the other day, a friend of mine and I, went out on a "girls night" and we both kept saying how scandalous we felt. We were both in super cute dresses, patterned tights like these and during our drive, we both kept saying that we were dressed so scandalously. Of course, once we got to the bar where her friend's band was playing, we realized that compared to some of the other ladies apparel, ours was almost prudish. Needless to say, I think as long as I'm staying true to myself, I'm not going to fret over whether or not people think I look scandalous (cause that's normally where my insecurity lies). It's tough when you're in ministry, too, cause of that whole "not causing your brother to stumble" thing. Anyhow, these are just a few of the things I get to think about being a young woman who loves fashion AND Jesus.

So I wanted everyone to witness my St. Vincent DePaul frequent buyer card. When I walked up to the register with my full cart this Tuesday (on 40% off day), it felt like every other Tuesday at SVDP, but in turned out to be a magical transaction. This woman, who I literally see every week, took one look at me and my cart and said, "Oh honey, please tell me you have a frequent buyer's card." To which of course I said, "Frequent buyer's card?! How has no one told me about this?!" She signed me up and I got 50% off of my entire transaction. Needless to say, I could not stop thanking her for making my day.

Moving on, I'm so excited because I'm going to knock out my final tomorrow, get a haircut on Friday and hopefully see my amazing cousin and sister next week when they come visit me.

Considering I'm about to have a glorious break from school, I will hopefully be blogging with more excellence, creativity and content. Hope you'll be up for it. I know I am!

Autumn Bridge

Well friends, all I can say is...I don't like any of these pictures. I'm ready for a haircut and some trips to the gym, that is for sure.

It's just one of those crazy days. It was so cold for Texas today. Honestly, I can't believe Austin and I talk about living in Colorado or Canada cause I'm such a pansy when it comes to cold weather.

I'm so excited that I'm almost done with school. I have one more final which is a take home but I'm totally acting like I'm done. I'll get it done.

I'm so tired, so I'm out. Hope you're staying warm by a fire, a loved one or that you're wearing a onesie to keep you warm like my sock monkey onesie.

Christmas Doll

A lady at church this morning saw me as I was standing on stage in front of our Christmas tree and said that I looked like a Christmas doll. First of all, I'm not sure what a Christmas doll is. Second of all, I'm not entirely sure how a life-sized Christmas doll would go over in church, but I think I may have pulled it off today.

Pretty sure I was telling Austin, "It's so cold," which, annoyingly, becomes a filler statement of the obvious when it's cold outside.

During winter, I'm totally a Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer lookalike. As you can tell, it was quite chilly (AND rainy) all day so my red nose is here to stay.

I'm sitting in front of a lit fireplace as I type and I honestly feel good about my final tomorrow, so I figured what better time to make a quick blog update?!

Austin snapped these pictures (very quickly) after lunch at Chipotle, which is like a second home for us. He's addicted to Chipotle and I am an enabler of his addiction. Ah, the things love will make you do.

So now I am so looking forward to these winter days ahead so I can finally wear some winter outfits. I'd been waiting to wear this jacket which I scored at Target for $20.00 almost a month ago. It was already on sale and then I had $5 off outerwear coupon. I saw it on sale at Target just yesterday so if you like it, I say run and grab it. The hood is huge if you can't tell.

Also, these Target tights are brown, but it's difficult to tell. The dress was a gift that my mom got me almost four years ago from a boutique in Fredericksburg. I still love it.

Our electric guitarist made a jab at my "30's looking shoes" and I proceeded to show him the bottom of my shoe where the price of $3.99 was written on the sole. I felt pretty cool.

Ok, I'm going to get back to it.

Debbie Downer

I look like such a Debbie Downer today. Seriously, I just couldn't get out a real smile out in this photo shoot except for the one where I'm looking at Austin (awwww).

Looking for Signs

Debbie Harry

So I'm definitely trying to catch up on some blog posts so this will be brief.

I'm bummed we didn't get many good pictures though. We got home late Wednesday evening so it was tough to get any good pictures.

I personally love this outfit cause it makes me feel like Debbie Harry. sister and I seriously wore out our Best of Blondie cd when we were kiddos so she's always been like the epitome of cool in my mind. My pastor said, "You looks so 80's today" so I believe my mission was accomplished.

Anyhow, one paper down, two more finals to go. I'm feeling good about the close of this semester.
