If I Were a Boy

Check out the cutie who committed his life to me, thus forcing him to take pictures of me for the rest of his existence.

It was an amazing full week back at work.  My life is back in full swing and while I miss my family tons still, life is still really good.

We've (we=my husband & and one of my housemates) been dieting for the last week and I've literally worked out five days out of the last six and dangit if I don't feel like a flippin baller.  It may not show in these pictures but underneath my newly thrifted jacket lies a future bodybuilder.  Or maybe I'll just be a little more toned than I was last month.  Either way, it feels good to be taking care of myself.  It reminds me of the entire reason I got the balls to do this blog in the first place.  I lost 30 lbs and had a whole new sense of self.

Anyhow, the real reason we're working out is cause we're about to go on a cruise and I don't' want to be Mrs. Flabby Pants, but with only a week left to go, it may just be my one piece and I (which is totally cool cause it's still cute).

I felt so cool in my boyish look today.  It took me back to the days when I really did dress like a boy in my old school Reeboks, thrift tees and oddly fitting jeans.  I imagine if I were a boy, I'd still wear this outfit and that is in no way depressing.

Giraffe Obsessed

So some of my poses in these pictures seriously look like Senior Portraitss.  My husband was gracious enough to take these, by the way.  He's pretty much the best.  I know...you're jealous...but you can go get your own.

So I may be a little giraffe obsessed lately.  It started with my iPhone case, pictured here.  Then I found this dress at Ross for $9.99.  I also recently purchased some earrings that are little elephant heads. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm animal obsessed.  I suppose I need to take an African safari soon or maybe I just need to watch the Lion King.

Love Sunday afternoons.  They allow me to lie around the house and do nothing and after a busy week, it is much appreciated it.

Off the Grid

So it's a bit of an understatement to say I've been off the grid for awhile, in terms of blogging.  I'm more than a little excited about the fact that after months of saving, my husband bought us a Canon Rebel T4i.  So my plan is to get back into this whole blogging business.

Let's be honest, I'm in need of a hobby and I'm in need of some motivation when it comes to being creative.  I'm currently reading Michael Gungors, The Crowd, The Critic and the Muse , and it is completely challenging me to do all of the things I say I want to do (i.e. sewing, cooking, staying organizing) and get better at the things I do well now (singing, piano and guitar, diet & exercise, thrifting).

This dress comes to you courtesy of my madre who happens to know me well enough to buy me clothes from ModCloth for Christmas because I'm too stubborn to pay for just about anything at ModCloth unless it's 75% off.  I also got some Minnetonka moccasins and these sweet Ray Bans from my brother and his fiance'.  Overall, I got some pretty cool material possessions for Christmas.

But aside from material things, my favorite part of this winter break was spending quality time with my husband and family.  Highlights included breakfast with both of our families on Christmas Eve day, making paper flower's with my brothers fiance and my cousins, playing Monopoly till al hours of the night, and helping my brother find a suit for his wedding.

Overall, it was an incredible Christmas break and while I love my job, I'd love to have this much time to spend with my family more often which made it difficult to jump back into work today, but I'm so confident that this year is going to be a good one.  This past year honestly went above and beyond my expectations- I started a new job, my husband started a new job, we had a couple move into our house, and we gained a slew of new friends from church.

This year, I'm most looking forward to celebrating 4 years of marriage on our first ever cruise and graduating from grad school in May.

Here's to 2013!
