Bring on the Heat

The next time I think it's cool enough to wear a 3/4 sleeved shirt in July in TEXAS, someone should bring me to my senses.  It is ridiculously hot here and while I loved mixing patterns, I would have been better off with something a little more...airy.

So, from now on I'm going to be adamant about dressing appropriately for the weather cause I'm a sweater (sweat-er) and for all the experience I've had in Texas heat, I should have known better.

However, I'm so excited about this skirt that I got at St. Vincent De Paul for $3 since I went shopping on 40% off day.  I know I've explained this before, but if you are a thrifter, finding the stores that do any discount on top of already low prices really does make me want to jump for joy when I check out at the cash register.  Since I'm a frequent shopper there, I also received $10 off my total purchase, which is never a bad thing.

Also, just so I can make this public.  I'm taking a hiatus from shopping.  The reasons are numerous, but the number one reason is that I have WAY too much clothing and honestly have no need for more.  It's a dangerous hobby-thrifting-because you tend to feel like you're missing out on something amazing if you don't go out every week.  However, I have lots of amazing pieces in my CLOSET that I could easily wear for the rest of the season, for sure.  So, there's my challenge to myself.  I gotta make it happen cause I'm turning into a clothes hoarder.

On that note, hope you have a great Friday!

Bullseye

 (

As you can tell, I had some difficulty getting some decent pictures of my entire outfit.  Oh well.

Funny story, my husband claims that years ago when we were dating, I told him fedoras were lame.  Now, I don't remember saying these words nor do I claim them because truthfully, I've been wanting one for awhile now, however, the husband guilts me about wanting one when I supposedly thing they're "lame."  I imagine I might have said this at one time, but let's be real- my tastes change quite often so yeah- I might have thought at one point that fedoras were lame but when they're on sale for $4.48 at Target, I'll go ahead and say that it's worth it to try.

Point being, I really like my $5 fedora even though I got a funny/mean Facebook status update put up about me by said husband about this said fedora.

I wore this outfit Sunday for church and I'm pretty much entirely reppin Target with this outfit.  Seriously, they should pay me to be a walking advertisement.  I'm a lover of all things Target, especially their apparel.  Target...I know you're out there.  Holler at yo gurl cause I love yo sto. Or, contact me because I love your corporation.

So I was inspired to get this dress when I saw it on this lovely lady's blog, I jokingly commented on her blog that I may have to go out and buy it...but I wasn't joking at ALL, which is why I'm now the proud owner of it.  It's a miracle really.  I haven't bought a dress for $20 in a loooong time.  I just loved the fit of it.  The top was bought almost five months ago and initially, I thought I would return it because I just couldn't justify how expensive it was (by my standards), but I've already worn it enough times to justify the cost.  It really does go with just about everything.

That's enough, time for bed.

Floralriffic

This outfit was worn sometime this past week and I only wore it about half the day because we played ultimate frisbee in the evening and I was wearing a VBS t-shirt in the morning.  However, I was quite confident in this outfit for the five-ish hours I was wearing it.  There's something about teal and pink color combination that makes me feel all sorts of girly and pretty.

Oh pastels, colored jeans and floral, what would I do without you? Seriously, I like when I'm actually on board with trends cause it's like cute stuff is coming out of the wood works.  The tree in fron t of my house even cooperated by blooming some flowers. Thanks tree!

Well our weekend pretty much flew by.  We definitely hit up the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises on Thursday and had dinner with friends Friday.  Saturday was pretty much the best because I went thrifting with a few friends and then came back to my house to jam some music living room style.  We literally sat in the room and played guitar, sang- we even accordioned it up (that's an verb in my book.)  We went to dinner with friends and then came home and played Guitar Hero- yes, you read correctly.  We relived Guitar Hero madness last night.  It was quite the perfect weekend.

I am looking forward to this week because things should (hopefully) settle down a bit and (hopefully) I'll get into a better routine.  I forgot to mention in my last post how grateful I was for the sweet comments on the Boat post.  I'm seriously missing my sisters' photography skills! Hope all is well in your world!

Unintentional Hiatus

So, I wore this outfit almost three weeks ago, but who's counting?

So I quite enjoy when I can find a way to make an outfit work appropriate and then remove one element of the outfit that allows for a bit of relief from the ridiculous Texas heat.  This chambray shirt has been quite the lifesaver for many of these moments.

Well, this has indeed been an unintentional hiatus, but life happens.  This has certainly been a difficult time for me, but the dust in finally setting and all we can do when life gets difficult is continue moving forward.

I apologize for the graininess of the photos. In an attempt to get out of the Texas heat, I took pictures in my kitchen (my fridge is so hot right now; but not really cause it's cold) since it's the only place in my house that has pretty good natural light.  However, I was only mildly successful.  Don't worry, my plan is to get a better camera soon, just not sure quite when that will happen.

Hopefully, I can continue to update.  Truthfully, I have lots of new thrift finds to share so I'll do my best to make it happen.

I'm on a Boat

We couldn't help ourselves.  We were ON a BOAT.

We had far too much fun on this boat ride that was meant to check out dolphins, but it was just an overall fun barge ride.  It was, indeed, a barge too.  Like Gaston "roughly the size of a barge" barge. Anyhow, I know I'm not the only one who gets on a boat and immediately thinks, "I'M ON A BOAT!" so this picture HAD to happen.

Now that I'm settling out of vacation mode, the reality is setting in that I have to get back to real life.  Luckily, I thoroughly enjoy real life so I'm excited to get home.  I can't wait to get into a regular thrifting routine again too.  I always feel like I'm missing out when I don't shop.  I know, these are difficult problems I deal with.

SO grateful for my sister who took all of these amazing pictures.  She is the BOMBDOTCOM.

After a delicious dinner with my family, my cousins and our friend who is a wounded warrior (no lie, I had someone to thank on the 4th for all he's done for our country), I am quite content with life.

Hope all is well out there!

Sister Style: Independence Day

Check out my amazing sister.  She was wearing a sweet vintage dress that pretty much required us to take some shots together.

My not so original, but super patriotic nails.  Yes, I'm still married, just can't wear the ring around all this sand madness.

So I must be honest and admit that I had hoped to wear a different outfit for July 4th, but due to my overall irresponsibility with the sunscreen, I found myself quite uncomfortable in just about every 4th of July outfit I brought. Yes, I brought more than one outfit for the 4th and yes, that's right, the already dark complected Ani decided not to put sunscreen on and is now paying for it in sunburn.  But don't worry, red, white and blue is a color combination that I thoroughly enjoy and I'll make up for the lack of cuteness once this burn chills out. Literally.  Also, don't worry, my sister made sure to let me know with the look on her face when I told her I didn't wear sunscreen, how truly irresponsible I was.

I did wear this getup to the beach everyday to be patriotic throughout the whole week.

Anyhow, it was a great final day at the beach. We got to watch fireworks from our balcony and sing patriotic songs at the top of our lungs.  We grilled hamburgers, chicken sausages, and corn.  My sister made homemade guacamole and carrot cake balls.  Then we went for a quick walk on the beach with the full moon lighting our path. Of course, now we're watching Independence Day because what is the 4th without some Will Smith and Bill Pullman saving the world from an alien race?

Today- we celebrate- our INDEPENDENCE DAY!

It's been a sweet vacation.  Tomorrow, I'll be posting some pictures from our boat tour.  Get psyched man, Get psyched man!
